Roman Blind FAQ’s

Are roman blinds easy to fit?

Yes, Roman blinds are very easy to fit so long as you are using the correct measurements. They can be installed either inside or outside the recess. If you’re fitting your Roman blinds outside the recess, then you will have more leeway with the accuracy, but if your blind is to be installed within the recess you must clearly mark your order with ‘recess size’. This allows our manufacturing team to make the necessary adjustments to ensure a perfect fit for your blind.

Is there a difference between roman shades and roman blinds?

There isn’t a difference between Roman shades and Roman blinds. The two terms are used interchangeably in the UK to refer to the stunning pleated fabrics that decorate your windows. Instead of using a roller system, the shades or blinds are draped to stack up at the top of your window dressing.

How to measure for roman blinds

Your first job is to decide if you would like your Roman blinds to hang within your window recess or on the outside of it. You will choose the wording ‘recess size’ or ‘blind size’ on your order form. If you are using more than one blind on a window, make sure you quote the individual size of each blind rather than the overall recess size.

If your recess is less than 7.5 centimetres deep, or the window isn’t straight or opens inwards, then you must choose a blind to hang outside the recess.

For both types of fittings, use a metal measuring tape for precision and take note of the smallest width and drop measurement in centimetres. The process for measuring outside the recess is exactly the same, but you must add 10cm to the width on either side, and also 10cm to the length above and below the window.

*At Feran, we prioritise functionality and safety, which is why every blind made by Feran complies with the latest child safety laws and regulations. All our blinds are designed with the safety of children in mind, with cordless and motorised options also available.

Are Roman blinds as warm as curtains?

Yes, Roman blinds can be just as warm as curtains! If you compare our Roman blinds to off-the-shelf curtains, they are actually even more effective at retaining heat. That is because we use high-quality fabrics and and interline our roman blinds which can help you to keep your space as warm.

When fitted properly, Roman blinds create a snug barrier against those pesky draughts that can make a room feel so chilly, helping to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature throughout the winter, no matter which kind of material your Roman blinds are made from.

Are Roman blinds still fashionable?

Absolutely! Roman blinds remain one of the most popular types of blinds available today. Their timeless design means that they never go out of style. Here at Feran, we pair our deep understanding of the elegance of Roman blinds with a passion for modern fabrics and design.

When you work with us, you can ensure that your Roman blinds are as on-trend as possible. We have a huge range of fabrics for you to choose from, so you can pay homage to any big trends. The result? Blinds that look great today, but will stand the test of time.

How do Roman blinds attach to the window?

Roman blinds are attached to the window using discreet brackets which the blind then slots into. So, there’s no need to worry about their installation leaving you with any bulky fixtures that will interfere with your design scheme.

Roman blinds are fitted either inside the window recess or mounted above it, depending on your preference and the style of the space. There’s no right or wrong option; just whatever works best for you and the room the blind is being fitted in! When we measure up and talk to you, we will be able to advise you on which is most suitable.
